A community collaboration to honor the life and works of Paul Laurence Dunbar
RECITAL TO LAUNCH UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON’S “YEAR OF DIVERSE VOICES” IN THE ARTS

WHAT: UD music faculty recital
WHERE:      Sears Recital Hall, University of Dayton campus
WHEN: 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11

A free recital that is part of the University of Dayton’s Second Sunday series will kick off the University’s Year of Diverse Voices, a theme for campus arts performances throughout the academic year. The theme will commemorate the centennial of the death of Paul Laurence Dunbar, a native Daytonian and world-famous African-American poet.

UD music faculty performers will be joined by UD professor emeritus of English Herbert Martin, who will read and perform Dunbar poems.

Eileen Sears, who died at age 103 in September 2004, also will be honored. Troy and Eileen Sears were long-time supporters of the University and provided funds for Sears Recital Hall.

The program will be followed by a reception, sponsored by UD’s music department and the Graul chair in arts and languages.
