PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR: A CELEBRATION OF HIS LIFE & WORKS 23rd ANNUAL DAYTON ASALH/DLAMC-DEA ESSAY CONTEST

ELIGIBILITY: All K-12 and undergraduate students

SELECT ONE OF THE FOLLOWING SUBJECTS
1. A favorite Dunbar poem or essay
2. A little-known poem or essay that should be known
3. Dunbar as a role model
4. A favorite piece from the “In Praise of Dunbar” art exhibit at the Schuster this month
5. A memorable experience at the Dunbar State Memorial
6. A memorable experience at the Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center

WRITE YOUR ESSAY: Explain at least three reasons for your choice.

CRITERIA (grade-appropriate)
* Ideas/content
* Grammar, usage and style
* Organization and paragraph development
* Mechanics, spelling and neatness

SUBMISSION
* Include your name, grade, school and teacher’s name.
